  MUD PIT CLEANING

This oil rig is stacked in Invergordon, awaiting an improvement in market conditions. Now would be the ideal time for it to be fitted with a mud tank cleaning system.

Oil rigs have a serious need for mud tank cleaning systems although their owners have not in the past shown much enthusiasm for them.  Mud pits have become more and more enclosed over the years and as a result cleaning them is the cause of almost insurmountable problems.

The company has supplied machines to oil rigs for cleaning out mud tanks and base oil tanks. The tank cleaning systems are particularly useful for keeping down leg tanks clean of sediment, thereby reducing or eliminating the painful costs of cleaning these tanks at the times of Special Periodic Survey.

Tank cleaning machines may be retrofitted without the need for additional pumps and will provide a cost effective means of reducing residues, by maintaining the solids in suspension in the oil. They can be used for jetting the tank walls and bottom with the product, with water or water and detergent.

At a moderate cost, tank cleaning machines may be installed, one in each pit with the ability to jet all surfaces of the pits with the mud itself, with base oil or with water. Jetting with the product reduces any sediment to a minimal amount making subsequent cleaning with water - with the same machine - simple, quick and environmentally friendly.

Installed tank cleaning machines offer an answer to the problems of mud residues in mud pits. They can also be fitted in base oil tanks and down-leg or pontoon mud tanks. They are reliable and do not require special pumps.

Marex can help with design and if necessary installation. These machines solve at least one of the environmental problems related to drilling fluid at very little cost.

This is a typical Mud Pit Room. The pits are covered in but the tank tops are not complete. There are therefore small holes and apertures through which any fluid being used to clean the tanks can emerge with great force soaking the equipment which can be seen here. Marex has solved this problem and has developed a concept for cleaning mud pits which is both cost effective and environmentally friendly
